As part of UNIDO’s project of “Enhancing Youth Employability and Local Economic Development in Upper Egypt” a Solid Waste Management (SWM) entrepreneurship support program was implemented in Upper Egypt in the governorates of Sohag, Qena, Luxor, and Aswan. The program embraced the view that entrepreneurship, startups, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), and local innovation at large, particularly in Waste Management, can increase employability, and push economic growth in Upper Egypt. The project also supports the idea that entrepreneurship in the area of Waste Management can be a means to environmental protection and conservation of resources. UNIDO awarded Chemonics Egypt Consultants in association with Cleantech Arabia a project to work on creation of waste management startups in the governorates of Sohaj, Qena, Luxor, and Aswan and assist the growth of existing waste management microenterprises.
