The Iraqi Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works (MMPW) planned to establish sanitary landfills in several Iraqi Governorates in order to dispose of municipal solid wastes in a safe and environmentally sound manner. The MMPW invited several international consultants to prepare a complete technical and financial feasibility studies and detailed engineering designs of the landfills. Chemonics Egypt Consultants was awarded three contracts to provide its consultancy services for the establishment of three landfills in Tikrit, Nassiriyah and Karbala.
