The Municipality of Tripoli
initiated a project to improve the
Tripoli sanitary and storm water
Systems and update the existing
wastewater master plan. Chemonics
Egypt is working with the
Engineering Consultancy Office for
Utilities in Tripoli to assess the
existing condition of wastewater
systems. As part of the preliminary
work, Chemonics Egypt conducted the
review process of existing Urban
Development Plans, and the analysis
of discharge of raw wastewater and
overflow of storm water into the
Mediterranean Sea. Chemonics Egypt
gathered and analyzed data supplied
by the Municipality of Tripoli,
including maps, status of on-going
projects, and designs, and
conducting field investigations for
network components to identify areas
of critical condition and to measure
the storm water network flow
capacity.
Chemonics Egypt conducted the
following tasks:

CCTV inspection of problem areas in
the network and conduct manhole
inspections for the entire network.

Assessment of existing conditions of
pump stations and sewage treatment
plants, and current outfall points
(points of wastewater discharge into
the sea) and overflow lines

Preparation of an environmental
impact assessment (EIA) study to
assess the impacts of discharging
raw wastewater into the sea

Development of a comprehensive
hydraulic model for all system
components
-
Identification of alternative
solutions and selecting the best
solution for upgrading collection
systems and wastewater treatment
plants
-
Preparation of long-term plans and
the conceptual designs of projects
to serve deprived areas
This project provided people living
in Tripoli with the good quality and
systematic delivery of water, and
the improved living environment.
